Local people urged to have their say in Lib Dem leadership election

11.30.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 21st Oct 2007

Liberal Democrat supporters in Northamptonshire have until the end of October to make sure they can have their say in the vote to replace Menzies Campbell, local Lib Dem campaigners have announced.

Kettering Lib Dem executive member Chris Nelson said, "Having become leader at a difficult time, Ming Campbell has done a good job over the past two years putting the Liberal Democrats in a position to fight the next election."

"However, now that Ming has decided to stand down from the job, the Liberal Democrats have a very important choice to make - and I want as many people as possible to have a say in who leads our party into the next election."

"Local people can have a vote on who becomes leader by joining the Liberal Democrats before 30 October. I urge every Lib Dem supporter in Northamptonshire to do so - and have a real say in the future of British politics."
